CHRISTIANITY,
THE CHURCH &
THE NEW CREATION

The name Christian was coined in the First Century A.D. about five years after the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the followers of Christ at Pentecost. "And the disciples were called Christians first at Antioch." In the church at Antioch these Christians were also called disciples. (Acts 11:26; 13:1) The term Church means "called out ones" while disciple means "learner, pupil, an adherent and follower of a teacher." Therefore, the Christian church is defined as a group of individuals gathered together apart from the world to be followers and pupils of Jesus Christ.

The term New Creation is given to true Christians who have given up their lives to serve Christ faithfully even unto the death of the cross. They have no inheritance upon the earth and will be rewarded with life in heaven as spirit beings. (2 Timothy 2:12; Revelation 2:10; Romans 6:4; 2 Corinthians 5:17)
