Angels and Demons in the World Today

Bible Translations: NIV: New International Version, KJV: King James Version, NAS: New American Standard

1. Matthew 8:16 (NIV) "When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick."

2. Mark 5:1-13 (NIV) "They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him. This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. He shouted at the top of his voice, What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won't torture me! For Jesus had said to him, Come out of this man you evil spirit! Then Jesus asked him, What is your name? My name is Legion, he replied, for we are many. And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area. A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. The demons begged Jesus, Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them. He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned."

Where did the demons come from?
3. Jude 6 and 7 (KJV) "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh..."

4. 2 Peter 2:4 and 5 (KJV) "For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell (Greek Tartarus), and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; and spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly."

5. Genesis 6:1 - 8, 11 (NIV) "When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said, My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal his days will be a hundred and twenty years. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days and also afterward, when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the Lord said, I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air, for I am grieved that I have made them. But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord...Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight and was full of violence."

6. Ezekiel 28:12-15 [partial quote] (NIV) "This is what the Sovereign Lord says: You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God...You were anointed as a guardian cherub for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you."

7. Luke 10:18 (KJV) "... I (Jesus) beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."

8. John 8:44 (NAS) "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies."

9. Genesis 3:1-4 (KJV) "Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die."

10. Ecclesiastes 9:10 (KJV) "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might, for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest."

11. Deuteronomy 18:10, 11 (NAS) "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead (KJV necromancer). "

12. Isaiah 8:19, 20 (NIV) "When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn."

The Apostle Paul stated that we are living in the present evil world:
13. Galatians 1:4 (KJV) "Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world..."

Satan is called the god of this world:
14. 2 Corinthians 4:4 (KJV) "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not..."
15. Galatians 5:19-21 (KJV) "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, WITCHCRAFT, hatred, variance (discord), emulations (jealousies), wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."

16. 1 Corinthians 15: 40 (KJV) "There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another."

17. Ephesians 6:12 (NIV) "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

18. 2 Corinthians 11:14, 15 (NAS) "And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their deeds."

19. 1 Timothy 4:1, 3 (KJV) "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils...forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth."

20. Galatians 1:8 (KJV) "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed."

Guardian Angels:
21. Matthew 18:10 (KJV) "Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven."

22. Hebrews 1:14 (KJV) "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?"

23. Psalms 34:7 (KJV) "The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them."

24. Ecclesiastes 1:13; 3:10 (KJV) "...this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith." "I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it."

25. Matthew 6:10 (KJV) "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."

Every human can resist Satan:
26. James 4:7, 8 (KJV) "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners: and purify your hearts, ye double minded."

27. 1 Peter 5:8, 9 (KJV) "Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour, whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in our brethren that are in the world."

28. Matthew 26:41 (KJV) "Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation (or yield not when in trial), the spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak."

29. 2 Corinthians 10:4, 5 (NIV) "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets

itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

30. 1 Corinthians 6:3 (KJV) "Know ye not that we shall judge angels?..."

We learn that Satan is to be bound during the 1,000 years of Christ's reign:
31. Revelation 20:2, 3 (NAS) "And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he should not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time."

32. Isaiah 35:8-10 (KJV) "And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those; the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: and the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away."

And after the little season we learn that Satan himself shall be destroyed as we read in:
33. Hebrews 2:14 (KJV) "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he (Jesus) also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he (Jesus) might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil."

Yes, God's Word is clear and definite, this
struggle against evil and evil spirits is not to be forever, and not even for much longer.

34. Ephesians 2:9-11 (KJV) "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
